About Neurogenic Tremoring
Neurogenic tremoring is an innate mechanism that the human body has developed to release stress, tension, and stored nervous system activation. During a Trauma Release Exercise (TRE) session, the body leads the process — tremors emerge naturally as a way to release what’s been held in muscles and the nervous system. Gentle activation of specific muscles helps create the conditions for the tremor to arise, but the movement itself is body-led, not forced, allowing your nervous system to reset safely and effectively.
This handout will outline some simple recommendations and invitations for self-care after your TRE session.
1. Hydration & Rest
Drink plenty of water to support muscles and nervous system function.
Allow yourself extra rest if you feel tired — TRE can be physically and emotionally exerting.
2. Normal Physical Responses
Your muscles may feel sore or fatigued, especially if it’s your first session.
Mild tremors, twitches, or waves may continue for 24–36 hours — this is normal.
Expect possible changes in energy, mood, or sleep — your system is integrating.
3. Emotional Awareness
It’s common to feel calm, reflective, or emotional after TRE.
Allow any emotions to arise without judgment — journaling or mindful reflection can be helpful.
Watch your dreams — your nervous system may continue processing experiences overnight.
4. Session Frequency & Integration
For the first 10–12 sessions, limit TRE to 10–20 minutes, 2–3 times per week, allowing full integration between sessions.
Gentle movement, stretching, or walking can help your system settle.
Incorporate hand-to-heart breathing or brief mindfulness exercises support lasting calm.
Take time to reflect: “In what ways do I feel more spacious, relaxed, or grounded?”
5. When to Seek Support
Contact your TRE Provider or healthcare professional if you experience:
Pain beyond mild muscle soreness
Unusual or intense emotional responses
Persistent fatigue or dizziness
